“The most comprehensive formulation of therapeutic goals is the striving for wholeheartedness: to be without pretense, to be emotionally sincere, to be able to put the whole of oneself into one's feelings, one's work, one's beliefs.”

Karen Horney

  • Psychotherapy in English

In my psychodynamic practice I treat people with a variety of psychological problems. Any serious psychotherapy is less about looking for quick solutions but focuses instead on working together to achieve sustainable change. Together we will search for a language and images for the stressful feelings and thoughts you are experiencing and for which you might have been missing words up to now.

  • How does the method work?

Talking about what causes suffering, integrating it, and relating it to one's own biography and current life situation helps to alleviate symptoms and to achieve greater inner freedom.

Together we will look for the sources to your problems and try to understand why the symptoms are having such a profound effect on you. It is not my role to dispense tips or advice; rather, the goal is to understand and work through your problems together. How did your current situation arise, and what do your symptoms mean?

In this way you will be able to make decisions and shape your life yourself. You will learn to understand your needs and will be able to attend to them in different situations. Personal development becomes possible once again. We mainly work on the problems and conflicts in the here and now, but we relate them to your biography. By doing this we can better understand why you react in a certain way and what feelings are triggered by certain circumstances. It is my task to construct an atmosphere that is based on trust and appreciation.

Psychodynamic psychotherapy is a scientifically based healing method. It takes place while sitting.

  • How long will the process take?

Outpatient psychotherapy is a process that takes time. I treat most of my patients with regular sessions once (or twice) a week over several years. If you are planning to stay abroad for several months, it may be better to start after you return, as it is important to keep going to get things moving.

I also offer psychological counseling for specific questions or problems. Depending on your needs, a few hours can be helpful for this intervention. In my experience, a lot can be achieved in just 5 to 15 hours.

  • Will this help me?

There is, of course, no guarantee that psychotherapy will solve all of your problems. By talking to each other and working through your problems, things will get moving and you will find some relief for your pain. When you are engaged in conversation with a person to whom you perceive as accepting you and who supports you, it is possible for new perspectives on well-known problem areas to open up. In this way you will find new possibilities of dealing with difficult situations and feelings.

The therapeutic relationship and the regular appointments provide security and stability when these are difficult to find. Working on yourself requires courage and curiosity, consistency, a certain tolerance for frustration, and a willingness to be honest with yourself. Humor can also be helpful in some places. Then something can change.

  • How do I make an initial appointment?

I don’t have free capacities for new patients at the moment.
